- Doesn't happen but trade increases between the two
- 1987 Taiwan lifts its ban on travel to the mainland

- Tax benefits to families who accepted this (some lost their private plots of land)
- Marriage law brought in 1980 (confirmed the rights of women and raised age of marriage M=20 to 22 W=18-20)

Summary: Deng Xiaoping implemented many changes when he came into power. He adopted the one child policy to restrict the number of children people could have, he brought in a marriage law. In addition there were many economic changes for instance he encourages farmers to sell in the open market and he china also joined the international monetary fund and the world bank under his control.
