Lenin faced many challenges after the Russian civil war. He was the leader of the Bolsheviks and founder of communist government in Russia. Which resulted in many people disagreeing with him. Consequently, the British, French and Americans all did not support him. They were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. Lenin wanted to redistribute land, nationalize all banks, and confiscate private accounts. Therefore, creating enemies towards the Bolsheviks. Lenin was shot in 1921 which created a power struggle between Stalin and Trotsky because they both wanted the power. During the struggle there was a debate called "Guns or Butter." While Stalin wanted to focus on heavy industry, Trotsky wanted to focus on consumer goods. The struggle between the two continued for 3 years and resulted in Stalin being successful. Seeing that Stalin won, he therefore modernized Russia. Stalin changed Russia from an agriculturally based country into an industrial one over a series of five years. Each year designed to increase Russia's output on heavy industry. By 1939, Stalin had made Russia the second richest industrial country in the world.
"Describe the challenges Lenin faced immediately after the Russia Civil War and the power struggle that existed after Lenin's death. In your opinion, did Stalin modernize Russia?"
"Describe the difference between the Feb./March Revolution and the Oct./Nov. Revolutions? Why was the latter successful?"
The Feb. revolution was essentially a riot that went out of control. There was no leader or political movement to control it. During the February Revolution the aim was to abdicate the Tsar. The difference between the two revolutions has to do with governments being overthrown and established. The Monarchy was overthrown and replaced with the Provisional Government. However the difference is that in the October Revolution the Provisional Government was overthrown instead of established. There were 20 000 soldiers who demanded that the soviets take power and abolish the provisional government. The Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, took over the provisional government. As a result, the Bolshevik government was established.
The movie Enemy at the Gates was very powerful. It portrayed the hardships the soviets went through during WW2. The soviets continued to stay faithful to their country and always wanting to protect it. From someone who knew nothing about WW2 this movie showed me how strong and mighty the Germans were. It also showed how much land they were able to take and how out numbered they were. The germans were a lot stronger than the soviets because they held more weapons and had a bigger military. I thought the movie did a really good job of showing life during the war. It connected you to the people and made you realize what they were going through. To sum it up, the movie was groovy.
