For the most part the conflict between Iran and Iraq was based upon religion however oil resources played a significant role aswell. When the Shiite revolution started in 1980 the Shah was replaced by Ayatollah Khomeini and this really concerned Suddam Hussein. It eventually turned into war because of the fear of the revolution spreading to Iraq. It was extremely religious based. To this point it was solely religious based however they both claimed territory of each others oil. The Gulf War is then started because Suddam Hussein claims Kuwaits land for oil. This war was violent as poisonous gas was used as a threat. Iraq invaded Kuwait but America was not willing to offer support. George Bush then places sanctions on Iraq to pull out. The conflicts during this time all had there own reasons for war. Religion was the main cause however oil was also an adding factor.
To what extent were the conflicts between Iran and Iraq and Kuwait fought over oil resources? To what extent were they religious?
What were the outcomes of the four Arab-Israeli wars and how did this further establish the country of Israel?
There have been four wars between the Arabs and the Israelis: the War of Independence, the Suez Crisis, the Six Days War and the Yom Kippur War. The War of Independence was fought between the State of Israel and a military coalition of Arab states and Palestinian Arab forces. This war resulted in Israel victorious with a defeat of the Palestinian Arabs. On the other hand, the Suez crisis was mainly diplomatic and military bases between Egypt, Israel, France and Britain that resulted in a victory for the Soviets/ Egyptians. The third war was the Six Days War. This war was completed very quickly and was between Israel and a collaboration of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Again, Israel was victorious. Finally, the Yom Kippur War in 1973 was fought between the coalition of Arab states (led by Egypt and Syria) against Israel. This war that was initiated on a national holiday (Yom Kippur) once again resulted in Israeli winning; however, Egypt also accomplished political and strategic gains.
Throughout all these wars, Israel was very victorious. They all established Israel as a more independent and strong nation.
To what extent did the newly created United Nations help the situation in the Middle East in 1947? How did they fail?
The United Nations took over the area and set up an eleven-man commission to examine the problem. Their solution was to divide Palestine in half with one part for the Jews and the other for the Palestinians. The Arab nations that surrounded Palestine made it clear that this plan would not be acceptable. Regardless of this the United Nations went ahead with its plan. The General Assembly approved the partition in November 1947
However, the United Nations plan ended up failing. The British left Palestine in May 1948 and the Jews set up Israel almost immediately using territory given to them in the United Nations plan. The Arab nations that surrounded Israel immediately attacked with the intention of destroying the new state.
Three Kings is about a small group of american soldiers who were determined to steal a huge amount of gold. During their adventure they met a group of people who were in desperate need of the americans help. At first the soldiers were timid and unsure if helping them was the right thing to do, because it is illegal. But they end up committing to helping them. Personally I did not really enjoy this movie. I found the beginning boring and I also don't really enjoy war movies. However, the ending was good. I did enjoy the story and it was nice to see that there was a relationship between the americans and the persians.
